CREATIVE RESIDENCY

CREATIVE RESIDENCY

We welcome you to our new creative residency program in the Royal Chartered Borough of Arima, on the island of Trinidad, known for its bustling towns, cultural attractions and lively nightlife.

Periods: 1 or 2 months

Months: January to November

Launched in September of 2017 the EAST YARD Creative Residency Program was conceptualized for regional and international creative practitioners who want to gain experience working in another country within a community in a Caribbean setting, while still being provided with the necessary resources to hone their craft and produce new work of their own.

The program is aimed at new and experienced creative practitioners from the disciplines of:

Performance Arts —acting, improvisation, dance, movement, voice, singing, and playwriting

Visual Arts - ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, photography, video, fashion-filmmaking, and textile design

Creative Research

The EAST YARD Creative Residency is an international artists residency program providing artists, curators, writers, and academics with the opportunity to live and create work in Trinidad.

We aim to provide an environment for creatives to easily start their projects and offer a creative community in which they can participate as much as they like.

We actively assist all participants to immerse themselves in the local creative scene and provide the necessary support to ensure you get the most out of your stay here. The EAST YARD team will get you settled, show you around places of interest and tell where you to get the tastiest street foods that Trinidad is known for. As a creative community space, EAST YARD is teeming with activities and all residents are invited to attend.

As well as accommodation, and utilization of studio spaces the EAST YARD Creative Residency Package covers airport pickup,  a welcome package with local maps, guide books, vouchers, and a local mobile phone.

APPLICATION

Caribbean Fashion & Arts Feature Festival operates on a not- for-profit basis

with the important mission to specifically focus on developing and implementing innovative strategies that are transformational rather than therapeutic for preventing, stopping and healing violence in communities in East Trinidad. As such, our programs include community events, exhibitions, and education that introduces young people aged 15-25 to innovative ideas and tools for addressing violence at all levels of society through the utilization of arts and culture.

As such, residents who are willing to give some of their time to working with our young people to generate innovative ideas and tools for addressing violence at all levels of society, will have a competitive edge during the selection process.

We are currently unable to cover resident expenses or provide other forms of financial support, such as a stipend for living expenses, materials or airfare. As such participants are expected to cover the costs of living, studios, and accommodation whilst we provide all the necessary support to make your time here fruitful and memorable.

The cost of a one month residency at EAST YARD is $1800 - $2000 USD (inclusive of studio space usage and various types of accommodation required).

Overseas residents are thus required to fund themselves or seek funding from external arts organizations. We are more than willing to provide letters of support to assist with grant applications.
